SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an oil recovery method including separating methane and separating hydrogen sulphide from an acid gas containing methane and hydrogen sulfide; producing carbon monoxide and hydrogen from at least a portion of the separated methane; producing methanol from at least a portion of the resulting carbon monoxide and at least a portion of the produced hydrogen; preparing dimethyl sulphide from at least a portion of the methanol produced and at least a portion of the separated hydrogen sulfide; providing an oil recovery composition that contains at least 75 mol% of dimethyl sulfide from at least a portion of the dimethyl sulphide produced; introducing said composition to extract oil into an oil-bearing formation containing oil; contacting said oil-oil recovery composition in an oil-bearing formation, and after contacting said oil-oil recovery composition in an oil-bearing formation, extracting fluid from said oil-bearing formation, wherein the produced fluid comprises at least a portion of oil from the oil reservoir. Invention also relates to the device.

EFFECT: use of the present invention provides improved systems and methods for extracting oil from oil sands containing significant quantities of acid gas.
