FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment. Surgical instrument comprises a handle, a rod extending from the handle, and an end effector, which is connected to the rod by means of a hinge joint. Hinge drive is designed to rotate the end effector around the hinge joint and lock the hinge. Lock is configured for selective resistance to unintentional pivoting of the end effector. Activation of the hinge drive can unlock the hinge lock. Hinge lock comprises a first one-way locking device configured to resist movement of the hinge drive in a first direction and a second one-way lock configured to resist movement of the hinge drive in a second direction.
EFFECT: present invention relates to surgical instruments and, in various circumstances, to surgical stapling and cutting instruments and staple cartridges therefor that are designed to staple and cut tissue.
