SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment. Surgical instrument includes an absolute position sensor system, a gear assembly and a motor. Absolute position sensor system includes a sensor element and a position sensor. Sensor element is operatively coupled to a movable drive member of the surgical instrument. Position sensor is operably coupled to the sensor element and configured to sense the absolute position of the sensor element by generating a unique position signal for each position of the movable drive member. Gear assembly couples the sensor element to the movable drive member. Motor is coupled to the movable drive member. Absolute position sensor comprises a holder to hold the sensor element. Holder and sensor element are rotationally coupled. Position sensor is operably coupled to the sensor element, fixed relative to the rotation of the holder and the sensor element.
EFFECT: range of cutting and stapling devices is widened.
