FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of the process for upgrading heavy oil or bitumen to produce partially upgraded synthetic crude oil, to a method for synthesising partially upgraded synthetic crude oil, to a process for converting heavy oil or bitumen to a transportable partially upgraded synthetic crude oil and versions of partially upgraded synthetic crude oil. One of the versions of the process for upgrading heavy oil or bitumen includes: (a) providing a source of heavy oil or bitumen as feedstock; (b) treating the feedstock in an atmospheric distillation unit (ADU) to obtain a first distilled fraction and optionally treating the first non-distilled atmospheric residual fraction in a vacuum distillation unit (VDU) to produce a second distilled fraction and a second non-distilled residual fraction; (c) optionally treating the first non-distilled residual fraction or the second non-distilled residual fraction in a solvent deasphalting unit to obtain a separated fraction and separated residual fraction; (d) feeding the first non-distilled residual fraction or second non-distilled residual fraction or separated residual fraction to a syngas generating circuit to produce a hydrogen lean syngas stream through a partial oxidation reaction, and reacting said syngas in a Fischer-Tropsch reactor to produce synthesised hydrocarbons, wherein the hydrocarbons include at least one of the following: a Fischer-Tropsch vapour, a Fischer-Tropsch naphtha, a light Fischer-Tropsch liquid, a heavy Fischer-Tropsch liquid; (e) adding an external hydrogen source to the hydrogen lean syngas to improve the quality of the composition of the synthesised hydrocarbons; (f) mixing at least a portion of the synthesised hydrocarbons with one or both distilled fractions and / or a separated fraction to obtain partially upgraded synthetic crude oil.
EFFECT: present invention makes it possible to obtain partially upgraded synthetic crude oil of high quality.
