FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes a sequence of the following actions: - step-by-step (with a given time interval) ultrasonic measurement of water velocity in the cross section of water channel based on exploration of water column from the broadside of floating measure, for example, installed on a radio-controlled boat; - registration at each step of measuring the current value of horizontal angle crab of the meter by flow of water from the navigation measurement data, and – current depth of the water and the radial velocity of water flow by time delay and the Doppler frequency shift of call out relative to the frequency of the explorative pings; - comparison of the current depth of the water and the radial velocity of water flow with threshold requirement for selecting a rational measurement regime in terms of increasing the accuracy of measurements parameters of the water; - the choice, depending on the sign and the value of the comparison results of a rational measurement regime, including rational choice of the parameters of exploration pings, their kind of modulation and corresponding type of digital correlation processing of response signals; - integration of the results of step-by-step measurements and determination of average speed of water flow and water flow in the cross-section of the water channel based on the found values of current depth of the water, the radial velocity of water and the angle crab of the ultrasonic meter.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to increase the accuracy of measuring the flow velocity and flow rate of running water in an open water.
