FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, specifically to ophthalmology, and is intended for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure. Method for treating elevated intraocular pressure includes a step for intracameral administration to a patient in close proximity to the trabecular meshwork of a sustained release implant. Said implant is in the form of a rod containing a biodegradable polymer matrix and latanoprost or bimatoprost. Implant contains from about 10 to about 50% by weight of latanoprost or bimatoprost and from about 50 to about 90% by weight of a biodegradable polymer matrix. Implant releases therapeutically effective amounts of latanoprost or bimatoprost for a period of time from about 10 days to about 120 days.
EFFECT: use of the invention makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of treatment of elevated intraocular pressure by direct intracameral administration of a sustained-release drug.
