FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: intraocular implant is proposed for treatment of posterior eye pathology in humans, comprising a biodegradable polymer matrix containing at least one biodegradable polymer and a free brimonidine base. At that, the implant is designed to deliver the free brimonidine base to the vitreous body of the eye with a delivery time of up to six months. The biodegradable polymer matrix is designed for complete or almost complete decomposition after injection into the vitreous body of the eye over a period of time which is approximately twice the period of delivery of the free brimonidine base or less.
EFFECT: implant provides delayed or prolonged brimonidine release to achieve therapeutic effects without additional substance introduction into the eye improving the comfort of treatment and minimizing the risk of infection, or other complications.
