SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a modified carmine intended for the preparation of coloured polymers. Modified carmine is a conjugate of carmine and a conjugating polyester molecule based on biodegradable polyol and polyacid reagents. Preferably, the polyester comprises one or more succinic acid, azelaic acid or isosorbide.
EFFECT: invention provides bio-renewable carmine colourants with a lower negative impact on the environment and on health, with increased heat and light resistance, and also stability over time.
