FIELD: geology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geology and can be used to determine the genesis of marine sedimentary deposits, namely fine-grained sandstones, siltstones, siltstone and mudstones. To do this, place the investigated rocks in the rock storage (isolated from the atmospheric precipitation room) for 3–6 months. Then, the seasonal minerals formed on the rocks are analyzed, and the criterion for the marine genesis of marine sediments is the chemical composition of seasonal minerals formed on the surface of the sedimentary rocks. When a similar elemental composition of seasonal minerals with an elemental composition of sea water and the content of elements S, Al, Si, K, Na, Mg and Fe in seasonal minerals, characteristic of the qualitative composition of sea water, as well as the ratio in minerals Na>Mg>Ca, make a conclusion about the marine origin of the rocks under investigation.

EFFECT: method provides the determination of the genesis of precipitation in geological studies of the underwater morphostructures of the seas and oceans for the whole sedimentation basin.
