In order to control the accommodation process, access to the accommodative installation in or on the device is provided through the user interface of the auxiliary device. In one embodiment, the user interface offers advice to a user of an eye-mounted device to perform various visual actions, and the device installed in the eye receives messages from the auxiliary device that indicate the corresponding moments of visual operations. Based on the messages, the device installed in the eye generates configuration information indicating that the corresponding states of the device installed in the eye of the device correspond to the corresponding characteristics of visual actions. In another embodiment, based on the configuration information, operating modes of an eye-mounted device are determined.
