SUBSTANCE: invention relates to conversion equipment. Topology of the circuit for damping short-circuit currents is proposed, a method and a converter based thereon. Anode of the individual diode is connected to the positive electrode of the second switching module, the cathode of the individual diode is connected to one end of the energy storage capacitor, and the other end of the energy storage capacitor is connected to the negative electrode of the first switching module; the damping resistor is connected in parallel with the arrester, and then with the first switching module; the bypass switch is connected in parallel between the terminal x1 and the terminal x2 of the damping circuit of short-circuit currents; the power system receives energy from the energy storage device and supplies power to the control system; and the control system controls the operating state of the circuit for damping the short circuit currents by controlling the bypass switch, the first switching module and the second switch module. Damping scheme for short-circuit currents is applied to the voltage source converters. In the event of a DC failure, the voltage resulting from a short circuit is reduced by using a damping resistor, which avoids damage to the device and ensures self-supply, modulation and independent control.

EFFECT: damping scheme for short-circuit currents can be applied to various types of voltage source converters and has outstanding economic efficiency and technical efficiency.
