SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engine control system. According to the invention, on board a vehicle, the volume of gas fuel in the tank is identified on the basis of the volume of the liquid fuel in the tank, wherein the liquid fuel and gas fuel are stored in one single fuel tank. Further, the liquid fuel comprises a first fuel and a second fuel, and the gas fuel substantially contains a second fuel. Above identification of the volume of the first fuel and the second fuel in the tank is carried out based on the solubility of the second fuel in the first fuel.
EFFECT: technical result is providing the driver of the vehicle with accurate information about the quantities of the first and second fuel in the fuel tank and the ability to adjust the engine performance based on certain quantities of the first and second fuel to achieve optimum engine performance.
