FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the efficient, low-cost production of high-purity ammonium sulfate and calcium carbonate from gypsum, namely, to a partially continuous counterflow process method for converting gypsum to ammonium sulfate and calcium carbonate. Process for converting gypsum as a result of reaction with ammonium carbonate to products in the form of ammonium sulfate and ammonium carbonate when reactants are introduced into the reactors. Further, mixing the reactants for a predetermined amount of time and using a new combination of counterflow process streams in combination with reactors operating in a batch manner, in the presence of technological recycling of liquids. Then, removing the materials from the reactor and separating the solids from the solutions, where no reagents are added during the removal process.
EFFECT: technical result is the production of ammonium sulfate and calcium carbonate at a high degree of purity and yield, and also production of a plurality of crystals of different sizes and calcium carbonate crystal forms produced simultaneously.
