FIELD: chemistry; technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a process for the preparation of isopropyl alcohol, which is widely used as an octane-raising additive to gasolines, an anti-icing fluid, a solvent in the preparation of surfactants. Method consists in hydrogenating acetone with a hydrogen-containing gas containing, vol. %: hydrogen 40–50, nitrogen 5–20, methane 27–45, carbon dioxide 5–7 and carbon monoxide 2–6 in the liquid phase, using copper as a catalyst in an amount of 10 to 30 % by weight, supported on a carrier in the form of silica gel beads with a grain size 2.8–7.0 mm, specific surface area 290–330 m2/g is rest, activated at a temperature of 150–180 °C first in a stream of hydrogen: nitrogen = 1:1 by volume for 2–3 hours, then in a stream of hydrogen for 0.5 hour.
EFFECT: proposed method enables to obtain an end product with high output.
