FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an autonomous vehicle brake retarder system. System comprises: brake retarder (10) having main rotor (11) and two stators (12), one on each side of rotor (11). Rotor (11) is rigidly connected to axis (1) and is self-ventilated. System also comprises generator (20, 30, 50) connected to brake retarder (10) to supply electric power thereto. In addition, generator (20, 30, 50) comprises stator (22) and rotor (21, 31, 51) connected to the brake retarder. Brake retarder system and vehicle containing such a system have different versions of the generator drive. System may further comprise a linkage regulator module including a rectifier and a voltage regulator, with the ability to control the generator drive current in accordance with a control signal. Brake retarder system may have a temperature sensor to measure the brake retarder and transmit it to the regulator module to reduce the current coming from the generator.
