FIELD: production, transformation and distribution of electrical energy.

SUBSTANCE: arrester is provided for lightning protection of electrical equipment elements or a power transmission line containing an insulating body made of a dielectric, and five or more electrodes mechanically connected to the insulating body and arranged to be formed, under the influence of lightning overvoltage, electric discharge between adjacent electrodes, the electrodes being located inside the insulating body and separated from its surface by a layer of insulation. Neighboring electrodes (2) protrude into discharge chambers (3), which have exits to the surface of the insulating body. Arrester contains at least two pressure chambers (4). One part of the discharge chambers is connected to one pressure chamber, and the other part of the discharge chambers is connected to another pressure chamber. One part of the discharge chambers has outlet (5) on the surface of the insulating body from the side of the insulating body, which differs from the side of the insulating body, onto which the other part of the discharge chambers exits.

EFFECT: according to the invention, arc of the discharge is extinguished after passing a lightning overvoltage pulse before the passage of the accompanying current having an industrial frequency through zero.
