FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of electric engineering, in particular, to arresters for overvoltage protection. Arrester for lightning protection of electric equipment or power transmission line elements contains insulating body made of dielectric, and five or more electrodes, mechanically connected to the insulating body and arranged to generate, under the effect of lightning overvoltage, electric discharge between adjacent electrodes, wherein electrodes are located inside insulating body and separated from its surface by layer of insulation. Adjacent electrodes protrude into discharge chambers having outlets on insulating body surface. At least a part of discharge chambers is equipped with pressure chambers located near electrodes and connected to discharge chambers through discharge gaps between adjacent electrodes.
EFFECT: technical result consists in provision of discharge arc quenching after passage of thunderstorm overvoltage pulse before passage of accompanying current having industrial frequency through zero.
