SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mechanical part of a friction pair. Part of a friction pair is provided with an amorphous carbon coating with at least 70 at% of carbon, exclude content of hydrogen, and is designed to interact slidingly with an opposite part having a surface hardness which is not more than two thirds of that of the coating. Said coating has a roughness Ra, measured by profilometry, that is less than or equal to 0.050 microns, and a micro-roughness, measured by atomic force microscopy, that is greater than or equal to 0.004 microns and does not exceed 0.009 microns. Friction pair of parts that interact via friction comprises said part and an opposite part whose surface hardness is not more than two thirds of the hardness of the coating.

EFFECT: enabling to manufacture and determine the characteristics of the part provided with an amorphous carbon coating to ensure that, in combination with the opposite part, with considerably less hardness, none of said two parts will have significant wear during operation.
