SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Method for dry slaking of calcium oxides and magnesium from a calcomagnesian compound containing at least 10% by weight of MgO with respect to the total weight of the above calcium-magnesium compound includes charging a calcium-magnesium compound containing MgO and an aqueous phase into the equipment for slaking. Calcium and magnesium oxides of the calcomagnesian compound contain magnesium oxide in an amount of less than 50% by weight, the molar ratio of calcium to magnesium is 0.8-1.2. Calcium and magnesium oxides are slaked with the formation of quenched solid particles of calcium and magnesium hydroxides. Slaking is carried out in the presence of an additive selected from the group consisting of water-soluble alkali metal hydroxides, water soluble alkali metal silicates, potassium aluminate, sodium aluminate, lithium aluminate, ammonium aluminate or mixtures thereof, water-soluble metal chlorides, metal bromides, metal fluorides or mixtures thereof, water-soluble metal nitrates, water soluble ammonium salts, ammonia, or mixtures thereof. Additive is introduced in an amount of 0.1-20% by weight with respect to the total weight of MgO.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the conversion of magnesium oxide to magnesium hydroxide and to accelerate the process of industrial production of calcium and magnesium hydroxides.
