FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Method for wet slaking of calcium and magnesium oxides from a calcomagnesian compound containing at least 10 wt% MgO with respect to the total weight of the calcomagnesian compound, includes feeding the calcomagnesian compound and an aqueous phase to slaking equipment. Calcium and magnesium oxides from the calcomagnesian compound are slaked, resulting in the formation of slaked solid particles of calcium and magnesium hydroxides. Slaking is carried out in the presence of an additive selected from a group consisting of water-soluble metal hydroxides, water-soluble metal silicates, water-soluble aluminates, water-soluble aluminium salts, water-soluble metal halides, water-soluble metal nitrates, water-soluble metal lactates, water-soluble ammonium salts, ammonia and mixtures thereof. Additive is fed at a content between 0.1 and 20 wt% with respect to the total weight of MgO. Calcium and magnesium oxides from the calcomagnesian compound have a magnesium oxide content of less than 50 wt% with respect to the weight of the calcomagnesian compound and a molar ratio of calcium/magnesium between 0.8 and 1.2.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to accelerate hydration and/or increase the conversion of MgO to Mg(OH)2 in the process of wet slaking of calcium and magnesium oxides from a calcomagnesian compound.
