FIELD: fishing and fish breeding.

SUBSTANCE: unit (10) for positioning and orienting fish trunks includes transporting device (11) with grooved receiving elements (12) for individually placing of each fish trunk and transporting fish trunks transversely to their longitudinal axis in transport direction (13) and at least one positioning device (15), intended for positioning fish trunks by shifting them in direction of displacement (16), which extends transversely to transport direction (13). Positioning device (15) comprises sliding element (17) for displacing fish trunks and holder (18) for the sliding element. Sliding element (17) is disposed on said holder (18) rotatably from its home position with respect to at least one axis. Slide element holder (18) is designed with the possibility to move in displacement direction (16). Positioning device (15) comprises magnetic return means designed and made with the possibility to apply a restoring force acting in displacement direction (16) to sliding element (17) during displacement of fish trunks. Invention also relates to a tail cutting device for decapitated fish trunks comprising cutting device (37) for separating tails from fish trunks, and unit (10) is positioned upstream of cutting device (37) for positioning and orienting fish trunks.

EFFECT: invention provides accurate positioning of fish trunks and high throughput capability.
