FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, specifically to a method for standoff detection and analysis of objects with the measurement of the dielectric characteristics of the objects in real time and is based on the properties of wave processes at the boundaries of two media. Method comprises sending a signal through an inspection area, from a transmitter to a receiver, wherein the signal travels through objects in its path, wherein if the signal encounters an object, through which it must travel, the speed of signal distribution decreases and its amplitude drops. Signal processor then determines the amplitude of the signal and whether the amplitude is above a given threshold, and further determining the shift in length of the signal's optical path, the thickness of the object, calculating the dielectric permittivity constant, which is compared to known values of the dielectric permittivity constant of different materials, which enables to determine a predetermined group of materials to which the object in the inspection area belongs, and whether the inspected object belongs to a predetermined group of dangerous objects. System for detecting and analysing similar materials is also described. Method enables to detect explosives hidden on the human body, in hand luggage or in backpacks.

EFFECT: high accuracy of analysis of objects in inspected space with calculation of their dielectric permittivity constant, with the safe characteristics of the field of the transmitting antenna.
