FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: monitored space is irradiated by coherent microwave radiation on the frequency set, the signal is recorded after the signal passes through this area using several recording channels, and the registered signal which contains information about the dielectric objects in the luggage is processed. Irradiation of the area by microwave radiation is performed by several transmitting elements located at different points in space, and when processing the recorded signal, a plurality of optical path elongation values corresponding to a certain emitter-recorder pair on a frequency set is determined, then density distribution of the optical path elongation is calculated in a particular space, continuous three-dimensional sections with similar density values of optical path elongation are isolated, then the average optical path elongation density ρ, position and dimensions of the dielectric object in the luggage in the coordinate system (x, y, z), dielectric permeability ε of the dielectric object in the section of one of the coordinate system planes are calculated for each isolated section. Dielectric permeability is calculated by a given mathematical formula, εbottom and εtop values are predetermined, which are typical for dangerous dielectric objects, and at εbottom<ε<εtop presence of the dangerous dielectric object in the monitored space is stated.
EFFECT: providing the possibility of identifying dangerous dielectric objects, as well as providing the possibility of determining the position of the detected object in space and its dimensions.
