Electrical device (30) for compensating an effect of electrical current (l_L) of load (14; 34), in particular an LED unit having one or more LEDs, when the load is supplied via a phase cut dimmer, which is normally conceived for traditional filament lamps. Electrical device comprises connection element (66) for electrically connecting electrical device (30) to external power source (12) providing supply voltage (V10) for powering load (14; 34), monitoring device (46; 52) for monitoring electrical current (l_L) of load (14; 34) during first time interval (T_off) and signal controller (62, 64) connected to connection element (66) for providing electrical compensation signal (l₃) to connection element (66) during second time interval (T_IR, T_DC) on the basis of electrical current (l_L) monitored by monitoring device (46; 52).
