SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a power control unit and to a method for controlling electrical power provided to a load, in particular a light-emitting diodes (LEDs) unit comprising one or more LEDs. Result is achieved by the fact that power control unit (40) for controlling electrical power provided to a load, in particular, an light-emitting diodes (LEDs) unit (12) comprising one or more LEDs, contains: converter unit (10) having input terminal (42) for receiving input voltage (V10) from external power supply (22) and having output terminal (44) for providing output voltage (V14) to power the load, wherein converter unit (10) comprises switching device (14) for transforming input voltage (V10) to output voltage (V14); control unit (20) for controlling switching device (14); signal means (46) connected to output terminal (44) for applying a voltage or current signal to output terminal (44), wherein control unit (20) is connected to signal means (46) and adapted to control signal means (46).

EFFECT: technical result is providing a controller for controlling an output voltage of a converter unit, which provides high efficiency and reduced power losses.
