SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a driver device and a corresponding driving method for driving a load, in particular a light-emitting diode (LED) unit comprising one or more LEDs. Result is achieved due to that driver device (50) for driving load (12), in particular LED unit (12) having one or more LEDs (54), comprises input terminals (28, 29) for receiving input voltage (V12) from external power source (16) for powering load (12), and connection unit (66) for connecting input terminals (28, 29) to each other and for providing current path (74, 76) for stabilising load current (I2), wherein connection unit (66) comprises first current path (74) for connecting input terminals (28, 29) in a first current direction and second current path (76) for connecting the input terminals (28, 29) in a second current direction opposite to the first current direction, wherein connection unit (66) comprises first current control unit (72) for controlling stabilising load current (I2) in connection unit (66), and wherein first and second current paths (74, 76) each comprise second current control unit (80, 82) for controlling stabilising load current (I2) in respective current path (74, 76).

EFFECT: technical result is to ensure compatibility with different dimmers, in particular with phase cut dimmers.
