FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention provides an insulating material or a filler, as well as an apparatus and methods for manufacturing it. Blown material of the insulation or filler includes numerous individual elongated flocs, each of which is formed by numerous fibers. Floccules include a relatively open enlarged median part. Floccules also include relatively dense twisted end portions extending from opposite ends of the median portion. Floccules can be used in existing machines to fill with blowing garments without clogging them and provide an excellent feeling of softness to the touch, heat resistance and suitability for washing. Floccules can be formed by drawing staple fibers through openings in a rotating hollow drum to partially form the flocculus structure within the drum.
EFFECT: partially formed floccules may be retained within the rotating drum during the soaking time to complete the creation of the flocculus structure.
