FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: method of separation of diamonds includes the transportation of the rock in the form of a stream of individual particles, irradiation of the rock with X-rays with a wide energy spectrum, registration of the intensity distribution of radiation passing through the section of the rock stream at different energies, determination of the presence of diamond rocks in individual particles according to the characteristic deviations of the two-dimensional distribution of the optical density of the rock particle from the individual model of the optical density of a single-component substance and the separation of such particles. Individual model of optical density is constructed for the main substance by the robust regression method as a polynomial model of two-dimensional density. Device implementing the method consists of a transporting mechanism, an X-ray source, detector device based on linear X-ray detectors (one with the possibility of recording high energy, another with the possibility of recording low energy), a filter means disposed therebetween, computer judgment means, and a reset actuator. Vertical axes of the X-ray source, filter and detector means are combined.
EFFECT: accuracy of determining the diamond hidden inside the rock is increased, which increases the efficiency of the separation process.
