FIELD: materials separation.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for separation of mineral raw materials. The substance of the invention lies in the fact that the values of the effective energy of X-ray radiation of high and low energy levels are chosen in such a way that they change the nature of the absorption of primary X-ray radiation by diamond at high and low levels of the energy range, relative to the original rock hosting the diamond: at a low level of radiation energy, the attenuation coefficient radiation passed through the diamond μdia and the original host rock µpore has the following relationship μdia<µrock, that is, diamonds attenuate radiation less than the original host rock, and at a high energy level, on the contrary, diamonds attenuate the primary radiation more than the original host rock μdia>µrock.
EFFECT: providing the possibility of reliable detection of both open and hidden diamonds with a size of 1 mm or more in kimberlite using matrix detectors, both in a static mode and when moving the studied rock mass relative to the matrix detector at a speed of up to 500 m/s in the case of studying a single sample, the size of which does not exceed the size of the matrix detector.
