FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for the chemical industry. To apply a sizing composition to carbon fibre and to minimise the formation of solvent vapours, a polymer is first combined with a water-miscible solvent. Polymer is selected from: polyether sulfone, polyether ketone, bis-A-epoxide, bis-F-epoxide, phenoxy ester, phenolic ester, vinyl ester, bis-maleimide (BMI), polyimide, polyamide imide, diglycidyl ether of bis-phenol-A-epoxide, core/shell rubber, anthracene epoxide, naphthalene epoxide, novolac epoxy, trifunctional epoxide, tetrafunctional epoxide and combinations thereof. Water-miscible solvent is selected from dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), dimethylformamide (DMF), hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA), acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, butanone, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, dichloromethane, chloroform, sodium thiocyanate and zinc chloride. Resulting sizing composition is applied to at least one carbon fibre, the polymer is coagulated, the solvent is removed and at least partially dried.
EFFECT: when drying, essentially no solvent vapours are produced, which ensures environmental friendliness of the process, as well as safety for personnel.
