FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for distilling ethylbenzene from a mixture that contains ethylbenzene and at least one other C8 aromatic compound. Said method comprises: a) introducing a feed stream that contains said mixture into a first distillation column, b) introducing a first stream that contains a heavy solvent, above the feed stream into the first distillation column, c) introducing an aqueous stream below the feed stream into the first distillation column, the aqueous stream comprising water and at least one light solvent selected from Cl-, S-, N- or O-containing compounds and mixtures thereof. Also, the invention relates to the use of an aqueous stream comprising a light solvent.
EFFECT: use of the present invention makes it possible to separate ethylbenzene more efficiently.
