FIELD: printing equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the surface treatment of a security document which comprises, at least on one of its opposite faces, at least one security printing consisting of at least one pattern, wherein this face and this at least one associated printing being covered with a transparent protective coating, in this method, a varnish comprising crystalline nanocellulose in a portion of 0.5 % to 10 % by weight of the varnish is put in place via the printing or coating technique on said at least one face, and in which said varnish layer is dried.
EFFECT: proposing a surface treatment method for a security document for improving the soil resistance of the security document and its hydrophobic and oleophobic properties and in particular to ensure the protection of security prints that are critical to the authentication of the banknote.
