SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral care composition and its use. Disclosed is an oral care composition containing the following components (A), (B) and (C): (A) from 0.001 % by weight to 1 % by weight of the compound represented by the following formula (I): (I), where R represents a linear or branched alkyl group containing from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, G is a galactose residue, E represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, m is an integer 0 and n is an integer from 1 to 30; (B) from 0.001 % by weight to 0.1 % by weight of one or more cationic antibacterial agents selected from the group consisting of a quaternary ammonium compound and a biguanide compound; and (C) 35 % by weight or more of water. Composition preferably further comprises from 0.1 % by weight to 1.5 % by weight of a non-ionic surfactant component (D). Disclosed is the use of said composition to obtain a means of inhibiting the accumulation of plaque, as well as to obtain means of suppressing unpleasant odour from the mouth.

EFFECT: use of said alkyl galactoside (which is usually insoluble in water) in combination with a given amount of a cationic bactericidal agent in a composition containing a large amount of water, effectively improves the solubility of said alkyl galactoside in water while maintaining the effect of the alkyl glycoside on Fusobacteria and increasing the absorption of the cationic bactericidal agent on the teeth, which allows to achieve effective suppression of the accumulation of plaque and the suppression of unpleasant odour from the mouth when using the composition.
