FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for purifying raw methanol containing sulfur compounds, comprising the step of washing raw methanol with a nonpolar organic solvent, extracting sulfur compounds, wherein the non-polar organic solvent contains at least 60 wt. % C8-C20 alkanes and/or C8-C20 cycloalkanes and/or at least 10 wt. % triglycerides, which remain liquid at a temperature below 50 °C.
EFFECT: process according to the invention makes it possible to efficiently purify raw methanol obtained as a by-product of the kraft process or the sulfate process for the production of cellulose.
