FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polymers of reduced combustibility. A polymer composition with reduced flammability is provided comprising a thermoplastic polymer and from 1 to 50 % by weight based on the total weight of the polymer composition, of the flame retardant material, obtained by a method comprising heating at a temperature of 200 °C or higher for a period of 0.01 to 20 hours of one or more compounds of formula (I), wherein R is unsubstituted C1-12alkyl; M is a metal which is Mg, Ca, Zn, Al or Sn; y is a number 2 or 3, so M(+)y is a metal cation, where (+)y indicates the nominal charge assigned to the cation, and p is the number 2 or 3. Also, a method for reducing the combustibility of a thermoplastic polymer is provided. (I).
EFFECT: polymer product obtained from the proposed polymer composition exhibits reduced flammability along with excellent physical properties.
