Roller comprises inserts enclosed in a metal matrix made of ductile iron or steel. Inserts have a volume to surface area (V / S) ratio in the range between 3 and 5 cm, preferably between 3.2 and 4.5 cm. Vertical shaft grinder comprises grinding roller (1).

EFFECT: high efficiency of the grinder by minimising the presence of slits formed by the gaps between the inserts of the grinding roller.
