SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy and can be used for strip casting by casting combined with rolling. Continuous casting of metal is carried out in two casting rolls installed with a gap, rotating in opposite directions. Thin metal strip is guided through the first chamber from the rolls, located downstream of the gap, into the group of pulling rolls and into the rolling mill, the input of which is provided by the second chamber. Oxygen-containing gas is guided through the inlet means to the second chamber, the amount of oxygen in which is set to provide an atmosphere with an oxygen content of 0.5–15 %. At the same time, a humidity of 3–10 % is provided in the chamber providing access to the rolling mill to form scale on the surface of a thin metal strip.
EFFECT: selective oxidation of the surface of the strip and a decrease in the coefficient of friction, which leads to an increase in the smoothness of the surface of the resulting strip.
