SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine. Method of determining vital signs of a subject is carried out using a device for determining vital signs of a subject. Interface is used to receive a data stream derived from detected electromagnetic radiation reflected from a region of interest of the skin surface of the subject. Data stream comprises a data signal per skin pixel area. Data signal represents the detected electromagnetic radiation reflected from the respective skin pixel area over time. Analyser is used to analyse spatial and/or temporal properties of the skin area. Smoothness, size, uniformity of the skin area and/or of chrominance and/or luminance components of the skin area over time are determined and reliability information is determined using the change of the number of smooth and/or textured smooth skin pixel blocks over time and/or the change of the size of the skin area over time. Reliability information is determined from the spatial and/or temporal properties of the skin area. Reliability information indicates the reliability of the determination of the vital sign information or vital sign determined based on the data signals of skin pixel areas within the skin area. Processor determines a vital sign information signal of the subject based on the data signals of skin pixel areas within the skin area. Post-processor determines the desired vital sign from said vital sign information signal. Obtained spatial and/or temporal properties and reliability information are used to determine the vital sign information signal and/or the postprocessor is used to determine the desired vital sign.
EFFECT: higher signal-to-noise ratio and more efficient reduction of artefacts in determining vital signs of a subject.
