SUBSTANCE: measured value detected at the respective measurement point is associated with a node corresponding to said measurement point, and from this a two-dimensional network of node points is formed. Using the two-dimensional network of node points, as well as the source node and sink node, a network is formed. On the basis of the maximum possible flow through the network, a valuable document is classified as a suspected forgery or not suspected forgery. And the maximum possible flow through the network is a measure of the probability of the value document having, in a direction transverse to the direction of the network (namely, slantwise or perpendicularly), a continuous object that indicates manipulation of the value document, such as an adhesive strip or a separating line from a composed forgery.

EFFECT: described is a method for checking a value document in which the spatial resolution determines the values of the measurement of a value document.
