FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: system has a transportation device for transporting documents on a path (12) for movement through an inspection station, at least one apparatus for ultrasonic inspection at the inspection station, having ultrasonic transmitting and receiving transducers (42, 44), lying on opposite sides of the said path, and a processing system for monitoring ultrasonic signals received by the receiving transducer(s). Ultrasound absorbing material (300) is placed around the transducers and faces the path in order to absorb ultrasound reflected by the document. A guide device (312, 314) for documents, having a lower coefficient of friction than the absorbing material is partially placed over the absorbing material (300).
EFFECT: system enables to reduce undesirable reflection of ultrasound waves during high speed transportation of documents.
