FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing 2-phenyl-3-alkylquinolines of formula (1) , where R = H, CH3, C2H5, includes reacting benzylamine with an aniline and aliphatic alcohols RCH2CH2OH (where R assumes values given above) and CCl4 in the presence of an iron-containing catalyst (FeCl3, FeCl3·6H2O, FeCl2·4H2O, Fe(C5H5)2, Fe(acac)3, Fe(OAc)2 and Fe2(CO)9) in the molar ratio: [Fe]:[benzylamine ]:[aniline]:[alcohol]:[CCl4]=[0.5-1]:[100]:[10-100]:[200-400]:[100-200] at 130-150°C for 4-8 hours.
EFFECT: method of producing 2-phenyl-3-alkylquinolines, characterised by high output and low cost of the end product owing to use of affordable initial reagents.
