POWDER CHAMBER FOR DELIVERY OF LARGE DOSES OF MEDICINES Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61M15/00

Abstract RU 2675686 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment. Dry powder inhaler is intended for pulmonary or nasal delivery and includes a housing and a cartridge. Housing contains a mouthpiece, a lower inlet of the channel, an inhalation channel for fluid communication between the patient’s mouth and the lower channel inlet. Side inlet provides direct air from the atmosphere into the inhalation channel. Housing bore is defined between the opposing upper wall and the lower wall and the opposite side walls. Housing bore has at least one open end through which the cartridge is inserted into the bore, and at least one air inlet for air to enter the body bore. Means for guiding the movement of the cartridge in the housing opening control its movement from the storage position to the inhalation position. Cartridge is adapted to engage in the opening of the housing and has a cylindrical powder chamber for receiving a medicine based on a powder, and an air inlet vent. Powder chamber has an outlet that provides fluid communication with the inhalation channel through the lower inlet of the body channel and a protrusion for interacting with the means of the body for the direction of movement. Cartridge is movable by sliding inside the case between the storage position, wherein the air inlet vent for the cartridge is sealed through the housing of the inhaler in such a way that there is no fluid communication with the cartridge to the inhalation position. Air inlet vent in the cartridge is aligned with the corresponding air inlet in the housing of the inhaler so that there is fluid communication between the air inlet in the housing, the inlet vent for the air in the cartridge; the top outlet of the cartridge; and the mouthpiece channel. Cartridge includes at least two air intake vents, at least one of which is a side air inlet vent. Housing has an air inlet corresponding to each of the air inlets for the air in the cartridge, which provides air from the atmosphere to the powder chamber of the cartridge when the cartridge is in the inhalation position. Lower inlet of the channel of the housing further comprises at least one opening that forms a constriction in the flow path of the fluid from the outlet of the powder chamber of the cartridge to the inhalation channel when the powder cartridge is moved to the inhalation position.

EFFECT: technical result consists in providing effective aerosolization and deagglomeration using a highly cohesive powder.
