FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to fibre optic cable components such as buffer tubes, core tubes, or shaped core tubes made from an extruded composition comprising high density polyethylene, crystalline polypropylene, and an olefin block composite. Described is a polymer composition for the protective component of fibre-optic cable, including: (a) bimodal high density polyethylene in an amount of at least 50 wt. % relative to the total weight of the polymer composition, (b) crystalline polypropylene in an amount of more than 0 but less than 50 wt. % relative to the total weight of the polymer composition, and (c) an olefin block composite in an amount ranging from 1 to 20 wt. % relative to the total weight of the polymer composition. Invention also discloses an extruded protective component of a fibre optic cable comprising said extruded polymer composition, and a fibre optic cable comprising: (a) said extruded protective component of the fibre optic cable and (b) at least one fibre optic transmission medium.
EFFECT: technical result is reduction of brittleness temperature and reduction of return shrinkage.
