SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a roller for compressing protective sheeting made of polymer material around a pipeline and a method for compressing protective sheeting. Said roller is made with the possibility of rotation around the axis of rotation, mounted on the shaft with the first tubular portion passing around the shaft and with its variable elasticity along the axis of rotation, as well as the second tubular portion. Wherein the latter is put on the first tubular portion. Said first tubular portion has a greater elasticity at the ends than in the center of the roller. There is also an elastic shell made with the possibility of adjusting the surface of the roller. This method of compressing protective sheeting of polymer material involves stripping the area from the coating and positioning the roller on the cleaned area so that the axis of rotation of the roller is parallel to the longitudinal axis, and the protective sheeting is wrapped around the pipeline.
