STAPLE CARTRIDGE ASSEMBLY, HYBRID ADJUNCT MATERIAL AND METHOD OF STAPLING BIOLOGICAL TISSUE Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61B17/64

Abstract RU 2676524 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to surgical instruments, in particular to methods, devices and elements therein for cutting and stapling tissue. Staple cartridge assembly for use with a surgical stapler includes a cartridge body and a hybrid adjunct material. Cartridge body has staple cavities configured to accommodate staples. Hybrid adjunct material is held to allow release on the cartridge body and is configured for delivery to the tissue when placing the staples in the cartridge body. Material contains a biological tissue membrane, a layer of synthetic substrate and at least one compressible elastic member that is compressible when a compressive force is applied thereto and is adapted to provide a spring back force when the compressive force is removed. Compressible elastic member includes one or more surface features configured for fixing the membrane to the elastic member. One or more surface features are selected from the group consisting of ball shaped end caps, shelves, barbs, and combinations thereof. Hybrid adjunct material contains a biological tissue membrane, a layer of synthetic substrate and at least one compressible elastic member configured for compression when a compressive force is applied thereto and adapted to provide a spring back force when the compressive force is removed. Material is configured for connection with the possibility of release to the cartridge body of the surgical stapling instrument for delivery to the tissue when the staples are removed from the cartridge body. Method of stapling biological tissue includes engaging the tissue with the cartridge body of a surgical stapling instrument in a surgical field and activating the surgical stapling instrument to push the staples out of the cartridge body into biological tissue. Cartridge body comprises said hybrid adjunct material releasably held thereon. Staples pass through the material to hold said material in the surgical field.

EFFECT: group of inventions is characterised by special surface features, which allow fixing a compressible elastic member to and / or inside a biological tissue membrane, thereby reducing the movement of the elastic member inside the membrane.
