FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the coating of metal surfaces. Method comprises steps of: I. providing a substrate with a cleaned surface, II. applying an organic coating from an aqueous composition in the form of a dispersion and/or suspension of film-forming polymers, consisting of a mixture of at least one stabilised polymer dispersion with a solids content from 30 to 80 wt% with a gelling agent in an amount of 0.001 to 20.0 wt% based on the total weight of the resulting mixture and forming an ionic gel based organic coating with cation, IV. drying and/or baking an organic coating, or V. coating before drying and/or baking. Between steps I and II, additional coating is applied from the aqueous composition in the form of a dispersion and/or suspension based on a colloidal silicate sol, which incorporates multivalent metal cations. Method is self-regulating, and subsequent coatings applied according to the invention form a uniform layer on an irregularly-shaped workpiece which, after drying, has a uniform thickness and is comparable in quality to an electrophoretic or autophoretically deposited lacquer layer.
EFFECT: invention provides for the formation of even and uniform high-quality protective coatings.
