FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of hydrotalcite-like compounds and can be used in the manufacture of sorbents and catalysts. Method of producing layered magnesium and aluminum hydroxide involves mixing the chloride or nitrate of magnesium or aluminum with a carbonate reagent, isolating the hydrated precipitate of magnesium and aluminum, washing it with water and drying it. Chloride or magnesium or aluminum nitrate is taken in the form of crystalline hydrates MgCl2∙6H2O, AlCl3∙6H2O, Mg(NO3)2∙6H2O, Al(NO3)3∙9H2O. Their mixing with the carbonate reagent is carried out in solid form with a molar ratio of Al3+:Mg2+:CO32-, equal to 1:(2–3):(3.5–4.5). Resulting reaction mass is leached with water at a temperature of 70–95 °C for 0.5–2 hours to form a suspension. Separate a hydrated precipitate of magnesium and aluminum from the resulting suspension. Precipitate is washed with water until the pH of the wash water is not more than 7.5. Sodium carbonate or ammonium carbonate is used as the carbonate reagent.
EFFECT: invention allows to obtain a layered hydroxide of magnesium and aluminum composition of Mg4Al2(OH)12∙CO3∙3H2O, reduce energy consumption and the duration of the process of its receipt, reduce the volume of material flows, including wastewater.
