Patient monitor for monitoring a patient’s condition, comprising a sensor interface configured to receive sensor signals received by one or more sensors to measure a patient parameter, a communication interface for transmitting information to and receiving information from a central administration system and/or other patient monitors via a network, wherein the communication interface is configured to transmit patient-related data obtained during the absence of a connection of said patient monitor with said central administration system, said central administration system after connecting the patient monitor with said central administration system, a user interface adapted to receive user input and output one or more of the received sensor signals, information received from said central administration system and / or other patient monitors, and patient-related data, derived from sensor signals, received information and / or user input, a patient identification unit, configured to identify a patient, for which observation is necessary, a processor configured to process the sensor signals, received information and / or user input to obtain patient related data, wherein the processor is configured to synchronise and update its patient-related data after receiving contextual information about the patient, and a controller configured to control the communication interface to retrieve contextual information about the patient, including patient-related information which, after the patient is identified by the patient identification unit, is available in said central administration system and other patient monitors, from said central administration system and other patient monitors, and configured to control the processor to take into account the retrieved contextual information about the patient and contextual information about the patient, derived from the patient monitor itself, during processing to obtain patient-related data, wherein the contextual information about the patient contains one or more of the following: vital signs, chronology of vital signs, warning signals, chronology of warning signals, assessments, notifications, chronology of notifications, consultations, consultation chronology, prescriptions, prescription chronology, work items, work item chronology, status reports, patient attribute changes, protocols, protocol selection information, vital trends, warning signal, sensor data requests, control data for controlling patient-related devices, evaluation schemes for selected drug administration parameters, evaluation protocol status.
