SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the configuration and implementation of the function of operation, administration and maintenance (OAM). To do this, the controller initiates the configuration of the OAM function for the transfer path and generates the OAM configuration message, the OAM configuration message contains the OAM configuration information; and the controller transmits the OAM configuration message to the starting point transfer device and/or the endpoint transfer device of said transfer path on the Openflow channel. Transfer device at one of the ends of the transfer path accepts the Openflow message over the Openflow channel and analyzes the Openflow protocol header in this message; and if it is determined that said Openflow message is an OAM configuration message according to the result of the analysis, the transfer device analyzes the OAM configuration message, obtains the OAM configuration information from the OAM configuration message and performs the appropriate data processing.

EFFECT: technical result is the ability to receive and transmit OAM messages at a hardware level at the transfer device at high speed.
