FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to direct chill casting of aluminum-lithium alloys. In the method, the system for producing a casting contains at least one furnace with a melt containing vessel and a device for direct chill casting of a casting, made with the possibility of taking molten metal from at least one furnace. Said device of direct chill casting of a casting includes a casting pit, a casting mold having a body with a through-cavity, bounding the vessel, a coolant feed associated the casting mold and in fluid communication with the vessel, at least one movable plate located in the casting pit, a group of exhaust ports located around at least the top periphery of the casting pit, a group of gas supply openings located around at least the top perimeter of the casting pit, a valve system adapted to selectively supply a coolant or inert fluid to the coolant feed, a source of inert gas, made with the possibility of supplying inert gas to the group of gas supply openings, and means for collecting the inert gas escaping from the casting pit, removing at least part of the water vapour from the collected inert gas; and recycling the inert gas to the casting pit.

EFFECT: improved safety and efficiency of casting alloys.
